The Dead Sea or the Sea of Salt is one of the natural wonders in the world with some surprising specialties. The dead sea is in fact not a sea but a lake which is being fed by the Jordan river. It is bordered by Jordan, Israel and West Bank. It is famous for its vast amount of salt and other minerals which made this watering body different from all other seas and lakes. Today, we are going to explore the Dead Sea.

Why Dead Sea is called Dead Sea?

The fact behind its name ‘Dead’ is that it has 8.6 times more salt than any other ocean in the world and because of the vast amount of salt living organisms like fish and frogs can’t survive in it but still some bacterias and other micro organisms can survive here.

Why is the dead sea so salty?

The Dead Sea is completely landlocked and it has no outlet therefore all the minerals in the sea remains there which makes the dead sea more unique.

1- The dead sea is not only the second saltiest place in the world but also the lowest and one of the driest places in the world.
2- As there is no outlet in the dead sea, the only major source of its loss is evaporation, also some amount of water is absorbed by the earth.
3- Due to heavy amount of salt the Dead Sea’s density is so high that people cannot be drowned in it.
4- The dead sea is called as world’s largest natural spa that is being used for water treatments to cure many diseases.
5- According to the scientists, the Dead Sea came to existence about 300 million years ago.
6- The existence of Dead Sea is in danger because it is being used for commercial purposes.
